Rajiv Gandhi, the husband of United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi, was assassinated by The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebel separatists on May 21, 1991 in Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu while addressing an election campaign. He was born on August 20, 1994 and served as India’s prime minister between 1984 and 1989.He became the youngest Prime Minister of India when he took office at the age of 40 after his mother Shrimati Indira Gandhi’s assassination on October 31, 1984.
